Who is Patrick G. Schwind,
and why do people say such great things about him?
I grew up in the Baltimore, Maryland area; youngest of 12 children . At the University of Virginia I earned a B.A. (Economics: 5/78). In July of '78 Marie and I moved to Tempe, Arizona so that I could attend the ASU MBA Program, (7/78). I earned my degree (Specialization: Finance), in 5/81; but my diploma says '83, (I did not pay a parking ticket for almost two years). I spent most of the 80's selling insurance and mutual funds; then I entered the mortgage business in 1/92. After almost 13 years with America's Homefunders (formally National Mortgage Executives), I left in June of '09 to join Impact Mortgage Network. The "head honcho" there is Rick Dunham, a good friend who was my sales manager at Sterling Mortgage back in '95. I am a "Non Conforming Specialist" loan officer, but since the "subprime meltdown" of '07 -'08, most of my business these days is the plain old "Fannie-Freddie" Conforming stuff. But I still do non-conforming loans using "portfolio lenders" & "hard money investors", for the folks who just don't "fit in the conforming box". We bought our "starter home" in Mesa in 1980, and since '94 have lived on gorgeous Fairway Drive (5 homes from the Mesa Country Club golf course). My lovely wife Marie, is a project coordinator in the College of Engineering, at ASU. Marie and I were "High School Sweethearts", and have been together since 1973. We have 3 great dogs that we 'rescued' . Our theory of financial independence is: "Have dogs and invest the difference!" We have both been active in numerous charitable and civic causes over the years, such as bilingual 'Jr. Achievement' instruction, and local Blood Drive and "Block Watch" commitments. Pat was one of the original members, & spent many active years in "Phoenix Cop Watch". We tend to be part of the growing crowd of "Paradoxical Moderates": Fiscal conservatives but lifestyle liberals. Sort of the "I want a lot of freedom, but I don't want to pay too much for it!", school of thought. In our free time, we do lots of reading, traveling, and exercise (primarily aerobic stuff and Tai Chi). Favorite activities include: "Cocooning" at home with the whole family (the dogs: New Otis, Ginger and "foreclosure dog" Peetie; Pat and Marie), taking naps, eating dangerously gooey-ooey desserts, and listening to some "Soothe the Savage Beast" music. Although both of us were raised as Catholics, I think we are now basically agnostics. But if you have a fun religion to recommend, that doesn't involve an inordinate amount of time, money, mysticism, trashing the competition, guilt or blind faith, hey we may give it a shot. We sometimes consider a new idea. Finally, we really enjoy good food and conversation; so if you plan to throw a party, please call. And be sure to "keep your eyes open" for invitations to an occasional Boxing match or World Cup Soccer party, at our home.
